Thank you for taking the time to visit our web site. At Open Roads Open Minds we connect literature, writing, photography and painting to adventure travel. What better way to stimulate your creative interests and talents than through first hand experiences! We may find ourselves roaring down a river in the wilderness of Alaska, hiking a mountain in France that was a favorite subject of Gauguin or sitting by a fire listening to a Navajo flute player with the sound of coyotes in the background. Whatever the experience, we have found that reflective people want to set down their new horizons in creative ways. We invite our travelers to share their favorite literature, their creative writing, painting and photography in an informal ambience.

Ken and Janet Fries
|
Ken and Janet Fries are Open Roads Open Minds owners and your guides. Ken and Janet value the wonderful friends and companions they have met on their travels, including those with Open Roads.
Ken has studied overseas, in France and Senegal, and traveled extensively for the U.S. Agency for International Development in Africa and the Middle East. Ken retired as General Counsel for the U.S. Trade and Development Agency in 2000 and now works part time as a consultant on international development projects. Ken enjoys writing poetry, often stimulated by travel and adventure. Reasonably fluent in French, and a serious francophile, Ken takes the lead in Open Roads travel in France.
Janet left her position as a school administrator to have more time for Open Roads Open Minds travel. Her interest in the tour business was first sparked when she took a group of middle school students to Costa Rica. Janet is the equestrian of the Open Roads Open Minds family so don't be surprised if your tour includes riding horses in the Camargue in France or below the ancient cliff dwellings of the Anasazi in Arizona.
Ken and Janet will tell you that the heart of the Open Roads Open Minds experience is the enjoyment and personal growth travelers get from sharing adventure and reflections with new companions and friends.
